For the Love of Cider

My love for cider started in lovely London, England. It was my first trip overseas, and i fell in love with London . There was so much to love outside of just the weather. When i first travelled there i was not much of a beer drinker, but i really got into the Pub lifestyle. So if your not drinking a pint of Beer, the next best thing is a pint of Cider at a pub. Cider in England is traditionally dry and made by and for the farmers, although its popularity has grown. You can find cider in almost every pub, with some pubs specializing in cider. Most of the farm style ciders, are very dry, and range from mid to high alcohol content 6 - 12%, and highly drinkable, and range in both sparkling and still ciders.

I was able to randomly find English cider in the states for a while, until the brands i liked, were either no longer available in the US, or changed to no longer represent what i loved, good dry cider. Instead changing to be what it thinks American cider drinkers like. There is this misconception that all Americans just like sweet cider. So that tends to be what is marketed, and sold in the stores in the states. As well as that is the misconception that most people have of cider.

This is not the cider i fell in love with when i first traveled to London. So i decided to start making my own cider, based on the ciders i love from England, dry, and delicious. I began making cider in my basement 8 years ago, and just sourced juice from local stores. Over the years i tried different styles, mixtures, yeasts, apples and honed my craft. I have since purchased property on the Isle of Whidbey and have started my orchard. I have a variety of english and French cider apples that hopefully will result in future single varietal ciders . My tree’s are still growing, so for now i am sourcing my apples from local sources, and washington farms, but the hope is to source everything myself. While i still feel like i have barely scratched the surface of my journey, and am learning every day, i decided it was time to share my love of cider with you.

Misfit Island Cider company represents the love i have for dry cider, and the hope to share that love with people all over. I hope to share my love of Dry Cider, and help people open there eyes to the variety and versatility of dry ciders. I want to show people all over that not all cider is sweet, and that cider can be just as fun as beer, and just as classy as wine. That it is an every day drink, that suites all occasions.

So come on out to Misfit Island, and see what we are making. Not only do i love cider, i also love Music, Christmas, Travel, BBQ, smoked meats and making new friends. I may not do things the standard way, i do them the misfit way. A little off, but still done wonderfully. So i hope you enjoy the cider we are making, and hope that you become part of the misfit family. Playing by your own rules, a little off but still awesome.

We are just misfits making cider our own way. We hope you love it, we sure do! Wont you fancy a Pint?
